Welcome to a Fascinating Place

I'm starting this blog as a means to express and share my own experiences and insights about the world, the interconnectedness of everything in it, and our potential pathways to a sustainable future. It is also a way to share with you the ideas, movements and organizations that inspire me in my quest to contribute to the positive transformation of our world. The blog posts and links on this site cover a huge variety of topics and will show how all of the different subjects are linked. I am thoroughly convinced that we, as a species, are inextricably connected to each other and our surroundings in ways both seen and unseen. Therefore, so are all of the ideas, technology and belief systems that we've created. Writing these posts is a very wonderful journey for me. I hope that you will find this blog spot to be a fascinating and inspirational place, as well.

Us Against Them! : "Fighting" for the Environment

There is such a feeling of separation in this world these days that even universal causes, such as trying to conserve a safe environment, have been converted into an "us versus them" mentality.  It's incredible.  Two videos that I've watched in the past couple of days clearly illustrate this phenomenon.
One is a video made by Greenpeace and attacks the creator of Facebook.  To watch this video, click here.  The other is a video made by the international initiative against climate change, 10:10.  To watch this video, click here.  (Warning: this video contains material that you might find disturbing... I did.)

Both of these short clips portray an "us" attacking a "them".  It's almost confusing as to what the purpose of the films is: a) to bully people into acting more environmentally-friendly, b) to just "vent" about how much "we" hate "them", or c) to throw a grenade at the enemy and see what they'll throw back.  It certainly doesn't seem to me that the intention could have been purely, "Let's raise awareness about these pressing issues among the general public."  Maybe, "Let's raise awareness about these issues by instilling fear and shame into the general public (ie- the irresponsible, ignorant public)."

I think it's very harmful to any universal movement (that is, any movement that aims to help the whole world) to create such a sense of disconnection and fragmentation between the "doers" and those who are not "doing".  We should not be creating a war out of an issue that so obviously requires global cooperation.  Aren't there enough wars going on?  Haven't we seen how ineffective and inefficient they are at solving problems?  So, why would we want to wage a war about making the world a better place?  How can we even do so?  Isn't it simply too hypocritical?  In the end, we are only fighting ourselves and, thus, hindering the momentum of the very thing we sought to promote.

So, in the end, I just wanted to write this short post to encourage the idea that we all need to work together if we are to achieve anything in seeking sustainable solutions to the huge, wide array of problems we face today.  Adding to the sense of fear, separation and the amount of wars being waged will accomplish nothing.  Let us realize that there is no "us and them".
